Why the Pansy

If anyone has ever wondered why I have my picture as a pansy, besides it being my most favorite flower there is this, From Wikipedia:

The pansy gets its name from the French word pensée meaning "thought". It was so named because the flower resembles a human face and in August it nods forward as if deep in thought. Because of the origin of its name, the pansy has long been a symbol of Freethought[1] and has been used in the literature of the American Secular Union. Humanists like the symbol also, as the pansy's current appearance was developed from the Heartsease by two centuries of intentional crossbreeding of wild plant hybrids. The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) uses the pansy symbol extensively in its lapel pins and literature.

I didn't know that part until after it was my favorite flower. I also like it because it is very hardy, it can withstand a lot of crap and still persevere. I have seen pansies poking up in snow.

The one in my picture is the one I hope to have tatooed on my ankle when I can get past the whole "needle" thing.

I like your pansy!!!! Red and black is so dramatic looking. I have wondered in the past about your pansy flower and think the explanation was very interesting!

:-)

I'm rather enamored of my phoenix as well. And I totally understand the fear of needle thing. YEEKS!!!! ouchy ouchy.

3 long island teas might numb me up enough to get the phoenix inked onto me. Now where.....hmmmm...... nah, I'd probably still chicken out.

I don't think there is enough crown to make me get past the needle. *shiver*

Maybe if you get enough to get knocked out cold? You'd have to get the hulk to stand guard so they didn't tatoo something really obnoxious on insteadof your beautiful pansy. :-)

I didn't know that the pansy represented our lack of beliefs, so to say. Hmmm, learned something new today.

As for the needles, guess what? They hurt! That's one of the things that makes the tattoo. I've been inked 5 times and am considering a few more. It only hurts for an hour or two, you can take it!
